New Year, New Rankings: Your 2025 Local SEO Gameplan
Good Morning TheraPulse Insiders!
Today is January 8th, 2025 đ
There's no better time than now than to focus on your SEO. While you're helping clients set their intentions for the new year, let's set your practice up for greater online visibility and success.
Today's newsletter is packed with actionable local SEO tips that could transform how potential clients find your practice.
đŻ Local SEO: Getting Your Practice Found Online (2025 Update)
Local SEO helps therapists attract more local clients by improving their visibility in search results like "therapist near me." It focuses on optimizing your online presence for location-specific searches, which is essential since 81% of people search for therapy services online, and 46% look for local providers.
Key steps include:
Optimize Your Website: Ensure consistent Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP) details, create location-specific service pages, and use local keywords.
Claim Google My Business: Update your profile with accurate info, upload office photos, and list your services.
Build citations
Submit your business to local directories
Encourage Reviews: Positive reviews boost trust and rankings.
Create Local Content: Write blogs tailored to your community, like "Coping with [City] Winters."
Build Local Partnerships: Collaborate with healthcare providers, schools, or local organizations for backlinks and referrals.
Monitor and Respond to your Google Reviews
Optimize Your Website for Local Search
Make sure your Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP) are consistent across all platforms - your website footer, directories, and social media profiles. Consistency here is key for improving your local search rankings.
Create separate service pages for each location you serve. For instance, you could have pages like "Anxiety Counseling in Downtown Seattle" or "Marriage Therapy in Bellevue." These pages should include:
Keywords specific to the location, naturally integrated into the text
Detailed descriptions of the services you offer in that area
Mentions of local landmarks or neighborhoods
A clear call-to-action encouraging visitors to book an appointment
A recent study shows that 81% of people search for therapy services online, and 46% of them are looking specifically for local providers.
Local SEO is particularly important for physical therapists because their services are inherently local and personal.
Once your website is ready, the next step is to make the most of Google My Business.
Claim and Optimize Your Google My Business Profile
Your Google My Business (GMB) profile is like your online storefront. To make it work for you, focus on these elements:
Profile Element | Optimization Tips |
---|---|
Basic Info & Hours | Double-check your name, address, phone number, and business hours (including holidays). |
Services | Clearly list your therapy specialties and treatment methods. |
Photos | Upload professional pictures of your office and team to build trust. |
Categories | Choose primary and secondary categories that align with your practice. |
Regular updates to your GMB profile signal to Google that your practice is active and reliable.
Build Citations Using Bright Local
A local citation is any online mention of your business.
Citations are important because they help Google to trust your business. Whether it be name, address, or even the phone number.
If Google sees consistent citations of your business name, address, and phone number, it counts it to be trustworthy information. The more quality citations, the higher youâll rank.
Conflicting info about a business can negatively impact your SEO.
Pro Tip: You can use a service like Bright Local Citation Builder to do this for you automatically.
Submit Your Business To Local Therapist Directories
Whether youâre a therapist starting your own private practice or a therapy-seeker on the hunt for a therapist, youâve likely considered using a therapist directory.
Therapist directories are one of the simplest and quickest ways for therapists and clients to connect, so why not give them a shot, right?
In this list, theyâve broken down 27+ therapy directories so you can start to market your practice online or find a therapist. Read the full guide by TherapieSEO here.

Create Localized Content
Write blog posts that combine local keywords with practical mental health advice. For example, topics like "Managing Anxiety in Chicago" or "Coping with Seattle Winters" can resonate with potential clients in your area.
By addressing mental health concerns specific to your community, you can establish yourself as a trusted local expert. Include mentions of local resources and events to further connect with your audience and improve your search rankings.
Localized content doesnât just help with rankings - it also opens the door to local partnerships and backlinks, strengthening your online presence.
Build Local Backlinks and Partnerships
Local links are vital to gaining more organic foot traffic. Actually, 76% of people who search on their smartphones for something nearby visit a business within a day. Thatâs why metrics and gathering data are important steps to increasing your local links.
A strategic tip would be to gather as many results of your search into a spreadsheet as possible and organize by priorityâwhich ones to connect with first, depending on their relevance and influence.
Reach out to get your business listed in the most relevant business directories.
Join the most active, massive, trade-based organizations related to your business.
Partner with local charities, non-profit local organizations, or schools. Offer services, sponsorships, scholarships, or even an office space to host their events.
Participate in or spearhead community events.
Mine your connections to set up an interview with prominent local figures (such as elected officials) then pitch it to your local newspapers. Local sponsorships are a great idea!
Network and connect with local bloggers, local blogs, and other small businesses in your area. Choose which ones are the most relevant connections, and open up a link or promotion exchange.
Open a mentoring program, whether for the community or for local schools
Speak at your alma materâs next events, or, even better, grant an interview.
Once you do any of these things, pitch the announcement or story to your local newspaper.
Why are these important?
Getting featured by any of these local resources such as local news sites may yield you some very authoritative .edu, .org, and .gov links. It also improves your organic search.
Engage with the Local Online Community
Your online presence should go beyond just having a website. With 81% of people searching for therapy services online, being active in local online spaces is a must.
Hereâs how to make the most of your Google My Business profile:
Respond to reviews thoughtfully to show you care about client feedback.
Use the Q&A section to answer common questions about your services.
Post regular updates about your practice on your Google profile.
Share mental health tips tailored to your community.
Engaging consistently helps build trust, but staying up to date with search engine developments is just as important.
What is a Google Post?
Google Post is an efficient tool for GBP page owners to talk about all the latest updates and events in their store/establishment. In principle, it is similar to a Facebook post on your newsfeed.
Google Posts allow you to offer discounts, announce sales, menu changes or even specific events such as exceptional closures or measures taken against the covid.
A post should be brief and to the point.
What should you put in a Google Post?
One or more photos.
A relevant title (up to 58 characters).
Descriptive text (up to 1500 characters).
A button to incite action, such as âSchedule Consultationâ, âBook onlineâ, âCallâ etc.
The desired url for the button in question or set it to "call nowâ.
How to do it?
Login to Google Business Profile and then on the establishment
Click on âCreate a postâ or click on âPostsâ in the menu.
This will take you to the âCreate Postâ screen. It offers options to add photos, text, events and a button to your post. Simply click on each field and enter the required information.
Once you have created your post, click âPreviewâ. If you are happy with it, click on âPublishâ on the top right corner of the screen.
Monitor and Manage Google Reviews
Online reviews are more than just feedback - they directly affect your local search rankings and build credibility. Regularly check your Google My Business profile and other review platforms, responding promptly to show you care and are engaged.
